“We are growing each game” says Lydney boss Kear

Lydney Town manager Rich Kear says that his side are growing with each game as they look to continue their fine start to their Hellenic League campaign away at Windsor this afternoon.

The Severnsiders lie 6th in the UHL Sport Hellenic Premier Division after the first nine games and travel to 9th placed Windsor for Non-League Day.

Despite not having picked up a league win since the 14 September defeat of Holmer Green Kear’s side go into the match full of confidence to get a positive result.

“I feel we are going into the game with good confidence and the feeling of wanting to do well especially with such tough away games coming up” Kear told Severn Sport.

”Importantly though we are growing each game and enjoying the challenge each week bring us.”

Severn Sport broke the news earlier this week that Lydney have brought back Tom Handley from Slimbridge.

The centre half re-joins the club after he was named Young Player of the Season for 2018/19 and Kear was quick to praise each of his new additions for the way they’ve hit the ground running.

”It’s been a solid start” he said. “It has shown how well the players have taken to the training and with the amount of new faces coming in and out they have been great.

”Of course there’s still lots more to work on as it’s a working process and we always want to do better but for how young the team is we are pleased with things.

Former Cheltenham Town and Gloucester City forward Kear was also very keen to praise Handley and the versatility and ambition he can bring to the team.

”Bringing someone like Tom Handley back, I feel it shows the direction of the club and how he feels we can help get the best out of him for his development and to help him progress in his career.

“He gives us options as a central defender, a right back and someone that can also play holding midfield so I am really excited to be working with him going forward.

”We have to say a huge thank you to Mike Cook (Gloucester City) and Paul Michael (Cinderford Town) who we have been in constant chat with about helping get these young players game time and the trust they have given in myself and the club to do so.”

Lynsey’s next scheduled home game at The Rec is Saturday 26 October, with Ardley United the visitors to Gloucestershire.
