There’s no place like home for Shutt after late winner for Tuffley

Tuffley Rovers forward Joe Shutt says it is great to be back playing at Glevum Park after netting a late winner to see his side beat Bradford Town 1-0 this weekend.

Tuffley have been playing their games at the back end of last season as well as so far this campaign away from home due to pitch maintenance work to help the drainage for the winter months, but they made their return in last weekend’s FA Vase win over Fleet Spurs.

Rovers marked their first league game back at Glevum Park with Shutt’s header the difference on the day and continuing their perfect start back home.

Following the game Severn Sport spoke to Shutt about his winner, his side’s solid defensive display and the excitement about being back at home.

“It’s great to be back at Glevum Park to be honest,” said Shutt. “It felt great to kick off the home league campaign with a big win against a team that will almost certainly be finishing in the top 6 of this league in my opinion.

Obviously I’m delighted to have scored the winner, but I have to say for the last 20 minutes of the game in particular we were solid at the back.

Without that determination and grit we have on the pitch the result wouldn’t have gone our way. But from a personal point of view hopefully I can keep adding assists and goals to the team and we can kick on from Saturday.

There’s a real buzz around Tuffley at the minute and it’s mainly due to being back home,” Shutt added.

Throughout the opening part of the season we had multiple conversations with Tuffley players and staff and the overall consensus was that Rovers would improve their form once they are home and with two wins from two it is had to dispute that and Shutt has reinforced the opinion that Tuffley are a completely different side at Glevum Park.

“When Tuffley play at home we don’t fear teams, their past results are irrelevant when they step on the pitch at Glevum park and we know we already have an advantage.

If we continue to play like we did on Saturday then I can see us having a lot more success and pushing for a high finish in the league.

Our position is great at the minute considering all of the set backs we’ve had this year with key players getting injured and playing every game away from home, so now is the time we as a squad and club kick on and really show teams what we’re about,” said Shutt.

Rovers head into a tough midweek game at Malvern Town, who went top of the league this weekend, but Shutt believes his side are capable of getting a positive result.

“Nothing changes going into the game midweek for us. We have lots of games coming thick and fast as they always do in the Hellenic League, but we have a decent squad with lots of depth and players who can step up when needed.

If we can keep playing the way we did on Saturday and in the Vase then I’m sure we can come away from a tough game against a very strong Malvern side with something,” Shutt added.
