Sam Turl, Andy Lewis and Craig Norman are among a group of six players who have left Cinderford Town to join former manager Paul Michael at Yate Town.
Severn Sport understands that these three players, who were all key components of a strong squad at The Causeway in the last two seasons, will leave The Foresters along with centre backs Matt Bower, Liam Angel and Nick Rhodes.
Paul Michael left Cinderford earlier this month for the Southern League Premier club in a move that came out of the blue, but on merit it was not shocking at all that a club in a higher league were keen to acquire his services.
Given the success that Michael had with these players at The Causeway and the loyalty that he has shown them in the past, it has not come as a surprise that he has swiftly acquired a solid core of players who he thinks are capable of making a step up in divisions.
Stuart Tait (Cinderford Chairman) moved quickly following Michael’s departure to bring in Stephen Cleal from Bishop’s Cleeve, who said he was “like a kid on Christmas Day” after meeting Tait ahead of being named first team manager at The Causeway.
Cleal has acted with haste though to replace one of the departing players, with Luke Payne set to join up with The Foresters from Bishop’s Cleeve as a like-for-like swap for the 25 year-old full back Turl.
