Severn Sport Tipster League 2020 – Cheltenham Festival Day 3 Results

Just when we thought we were getting into our stride as a league, another day of drama unfolded at the Cheltenham Festival..and once again, we have a new leader after day 3!

Our 10 tipsters approached the day and some took the gamble and added boosts to their selections today. Today’s races were

13:30 – Marsh Novices’ Chase

14:10 – Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle

15:30 – Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle

We were all set, now let’s see how the guys got on.

13:30 – Marsh Novices’ Hurdle

1) Samcro (4/1)
2) Melon (14/1)
3) Faugheen (3/1 Fav)

Unseated Rider: Itchy Feet

Well the key incident of the race that had an impact to proceedings was Itchy Feet, a one time favourite for the race during the week, unseated his rider and saw -2 points all over the place.

All of The Voltage, #Tripod and A season unbeaten, almost suffered the full effect of -2 points, whilst The Sidekick scored -1 point after scoring a place with Faugheen, his extra place boost limiting the deduction.

Sweet Prince and The Fox failed to score a point at all, whilst Top Trotters and Mr Slimbridge AFC both scored 1 point for the place of Faugheen.

Both Always In My Brother’s Shadow and Bacon backed the winner, with the former scoring 3 points and the latter picking up 4 points for also having Faugheen in the places. Bacon in fact was the only tipster to mention Melon at all, after naming him as his reserve.

One race down, two to go and two tough races at that!

14:10 – Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle

1) Sire Du Berlais (10/1)
2) The Storyteller (11/2 JF)
3) Tout Est Permis (12/1)
4) Third Wind (12/1)

First of all, none of our tipsters were impacted by any fallers or horses failing to finish the race at all, which is great going!

Half of our tipsters failed to pick up a point though, with Sweet Prince and Bacon picking up a point for The Storyteller placing.

A season unbeaten, almost scored 3 points for the winner, whilst Top Trotters scored 5 points for the straight forecast of Sire Du Berlais and The Storyteller.

The big winner of the race was Mr Slimbridge AFC, who utilised his double price boost to get “paid out” at 20/1 as a starting price for the winner, meaning along with the 3 points he scored 5 bonus points – picking up 8 points in total for the race!

So with one race left, it was all to play for and the top four were tightly bunched!

15:30 Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle

1) Lisnegar Oskar (50/1)
2) Ronald Pump (20/1)
3) Bacardys (33/1)

Pulled Up: Penhill, City Island

For the second day in a row, the odds-on favourite saw plenty of “double points” boosts applied to it and once again it didn’t win…this time, it didn’t even get close! Paisley Park a disappointing favourite for 8 of our 10 tipsters. However, he did finish the race!

The same can’t be said for Penhill, who wont his race a couple of years ago, and City Island – who both pulled up. This meant that Mr Slimbridge AFC, #Tripod, A season unbeaten, almost and The Fox all scored -2 points.

Everyone else failed to score a point, everyone except the Sweet Prince and Bacon, who both picked Ronald Pump to place. Both scored 1 point each.

So, with just the big day ahead of us tomorrow, let’s take a look at how the table looks after a mad day 3!

Look at that table! Just one point separates the top two, with Top Trotters now on top and Mr Slimbridge AFC making it a Swans 1-2 at the moment!. Both of the Sweet Prince and Always In My Brother’s Shadow are one point further back in 3rd and 4th and will fancy their chances going into the final day!

The Voltage and A season unbeaten, almost are 5 points off the top four and along with the rest will need one hell of a swing in points to be Tipster King this year. Bacon rises to 7th after he reacted to a day without scoring any points with a day which saw him pick up at least a point in every race, but he and the bottom three are probably out of the running…although stranger things have happened!

Join us tomorrow morning for the tips for the final day at the Cheltenham Festival, including selections for the Gold Cup race itself!
