Severn Sport End of Season Awards 2019/20: John Ashplant Local Hero Award

We are now looking at the penultimate award of the End of Season Awards, the John Ashplant Local Hero Award. The award recognises the impact and achievements of local people on and off the field. 

This season we are announcing the winners across the Easter weekend and yesterday saw Slimbridge’s Sol Wanjau-Smith take the award of Signing of the Season before Tuffley Rovers fan Joe Cole was given the Best Social Media Account Award and Longlevens centre back Ollie Long was crowned our Severn Sport Live Player of the Season.

On Day Two, we confirmed that Brockworth Albion 3-3 Frampton United Reserves in the Reg Davis Cup was our Game of the Season! And in the Breakthrough Player of the Season category, Cirencester Town’s Levi Irving went home the victor!

Then in the Young Player of the Season category, Slimbridge and Shortwood United left back Jacob Waddington was a popular winner!

On day three we confirmed the winners of our GNSL specific categories, as Andoversford manager Matt Brown was named the GNSL Manager of the Season. Lydney Town Reserves striker Sam Wines took home the GNSL Player of the Season accolade. and Chalford AFC were named the GNSL Team of the Season. 

In the final award of Day Three, Frampton United were crowned our overall Team of the Season, with both Ryan and Kelsey’s XIs revealed too!

Then we kicked off the fourth and final day with the news that Fairford Town manager Jody Bevan was our Manager of the Season. 

And now, Brimscombe & Thrupp striker James Campbell, Upton St Leonards manager Lewis Scott and Tuffley Rovers fan Joanne Wright are the three shortlisted for the Local Hero Award, after Herculean efforts from all three to raise money for good causes.

All three nominees deserve to be credited for incredible efforts to raise money for charities and the NHS, especially during such a difficult start to 2020. All three are winners for their achievements but the winner of the public vote is…

 

Congratulations to James Campbell for his incredible achievement of raising over £29,000 for the NHS by completing his 6m back garden marathon earlier this month!
