Prior confirms new addition to Brimscombe & Thrupp coaching team

Brimscombe & Thrupp manager Sam Prior has confirmed that Adam Thomas will be joining the Lilywhites’ coaching team for the 2020/21 season.

Prior confirmed the news on Twitter following a meeting held regarding the next season on Tuesday evening. Thomas will be joining Prior in the dugout along with Tim Wilkins and Olly Roberts.

Thomas returns to the Meadow having previously played for the club for seven seasons between 2007 and 2015.

Following the news we caught up with Prior to discuss the decision to bring Thomas into the backroom staff ahead of the new season.

“I’ve known Adam for a long long time on a personal level and having spoke to him numerous times about football recently, I decided to test the water to see if he fancies joining in a coaching capacity,” Prior told us.

“I was delighted when he decided to accept and it’s a great boost to have someone so well connected with the club, with the clubs best interests at heart in and around the place. It’s another person with a wealth of experience at this level and above who can help us progress on and off the pitch and between myself, Wandy and Trig, we now have most bases covered in terms of coaching, so it was a no brainier of an appointment,” added Prior.

Thomas, who also played for Slimbridge amongst others during his playing career, told Severn Sport about happy he was to be returning to the Meadow and can’t wait to get started.

“I’m really happy to be back at Brimscombe, it’s a club I hold very dear to my heart with many fantastic memories of being a goalkeeper for them in a very successful period,” said Thomas.

“Just to be a part of it again, the club, the committee, the volunteers is what I have really missed and of course when Sam contacted me about coming back to the club I was very happy.

It wasn’t a hard decision to become a part of Sam’s coaching plan. With a young family Sam has given me a little flexibility to juggle things around when I need too – which is great! With the figures he already has in the coaching team I really think that we can be a successful.

The squad is strong and I’m really looking forward to the season ahead, when that may be,” Thomas added.
