Price praises Cheltenham Saracens for “perfect away day” win at Shortwood

Cheltenham Saracens captain Harlie Price has praised his side for producing a performance he describes as the “perfect away day” as Sarries beat local rivals Shortwood United 2-0.

Price added a second to Sam Mason’s opener as Saracens moved above Shortwood into 5th in the Hellenic League Division One West table and it sees them just six points off the top spot, with as many as four games in hand at this stage of the season.

“For me it was the perfect away day,” said Price. “To keep a clean sheet against a good side was really pleasing as well as getting the win. We executed the game plan to a T and got our rewards on the counter attack.”

For Sarries the win is their fourth on the spin since being beaten by Tuffley Rovers in the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup last month, including wins against promotion chasing Malmesbury Victoria, Malvern Town and Wellington and Price has praised his side for finding their form from last season.

“If you look at last season and compare it to our form this year it’s almost like a total opposite.

We came out of the blocks like a steam train and slipped off towards the end last season but this year we were slow to get started. I feel now we are in a brilliant place as a squad of players though.

Confidence is really high as the last four teams we have played are all promotion candidates in my opinion so to take maximum points is brilliant! Long may it continue,” Price added.

The game itself saw two local sides play out a hotly anticipated local derby and Price admits he felt that he had a point to prove against familiar faces.

“Getting the win is a nice feeling of course. A few of the players know each other and it goes a bit deeper than just winning the game, it’s the pride element too.

For me personally it was brilliant as I didn’t play my best football at Shortwood so to go there and do what we did was great.

It’s always nice to score goals and I’m happy to help with my share. At the risk of sounding cliche I would have swapped all of my goals last year for the league title so I don’t really focus on goals I focus more on helping the team get the results to get us where we deserve to be,” said Price.

The tough games keep coming for the 2019 Severn Sport Shield winners with a trip to Thornbury Town following another all-Gloucestershire affair against Stonehouse Town next Saturday (23rd November).
