“Our first priority was to show loyalty to the players” says Paul Michael

Cinderford Town boss Paul Michael says showing loyalty to existing players was the club’s first priority when building his squad for 2020/21.

Heading up the list is the two time Player’s Player of the Season Sam Turl, who is joined once again at The Causeway by Andy Lewis, Liam Angel and Sammie Hicks.

More announcements are expected during the week; whilst we wait for those, though, we have been speaking to Paul Michael about how his squad is shaping up.

“In uncertain times the boys have shown a great togetherness and are determined to stay together and truly show what this group is capable of” said Michael.

“Our first priority as a staff was to show loyalty to the players who have shown it to us and we believe completely in the quality we already have here, in many positions you can’t get better at this level and I mean that.

“Throughout the next few days we will be announcing the returning players and then we will look for one, maybe two others. Whenever this season starts we will be ready to go.”

All four players were key components in Paul Michael’s squad from 2019/20 who finished 8th in the expunged Southern League Division One South season.

At Cinderford’s End of Season awards, held via Zoom due to social distancing measures, Turl was named Player’s Player of the Season for the second consecutive campaign, whilst versatile midfielder Lewis was named as Player of the Year as voted for by the staff at The Causeway.

Sammie Hicks made his return from injury last season and has agreed to return to the club for 2020/21, as has the talented centre back Liam Angel who became a key member of the back line for Cinderford.
