This weekend saw England finish third in the first ever UEFA Nations League in Portugal and saw England win their second penalty shoot-out on the spin and our man Ryan Butler has been talking about it.
After being beaten 3-1 after extra time by the Netherlands on Thursday night, England found themselves in their second third placed play-off in 12 months and were looking to avenge their defeat to Belgium in the 2018 World Cup.
The game against Switzerland saw the Three Lions have the best of the chances but after being unable to break down their opponents for 120 minutes, they were faced with the dreaded penalty shoot-out.
But Gareth Southgate’s men made it two shoot-out wins in a year adding to their victory against Columbia in Russia last year, with a 6-5 shoot-out win in front of the loyal travelling England support.
Butler joined Bell & Spurling on Monday morning to review the first ever Nations League, including the pros and cons of the finals as well as player performances like Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley, Raheem Sterling and the dreaded VAR.
Butler also talks England fans and the portrayal they are given in the mainstream media. Listen to Butler’s return to Love Sport Radio below.
