Marc Richards appointed Gloucester City manager

As first reported on Severn Sport this morning, Marc Richards has been officially unveiled as Gloucester City manager.

Richards takes over from Tim Harris (who left the role at the end of November) and is joined in his backroom staff by Will Morford as Assistant Manager.

A statement from the club said:

Gloucester City AFC is very happy to announce the appointment of Marc Richards to the position of First Team Manager.

A former Gloucester City player, Marc was First Team Assistant Manager under former manager Tim Harris who left the Club in late December [sic – November] and has now stepped forward to take on the challenge of ensuring that Gloucester City remain competitive in the Vanarama National League South.

After a period of uncertainty, we believe that Marc will bring the stability which is required and he will continue to develop the players within the squad implementing his own style of play.

After walking away from his role as Assistant Manager when Harris stepped down, Richards finds himself back at the club he first joined in 2007 as a player.

Richards enjoyed a long career in non-league football, playing for the likes of Cinderford Town, Weston-super-Mare, Swindon Supermarine, Cirencester Town, Chippenham Town, Shortwood United and Evesham United.

He also has experience playing in Australia for New South Wales Premier League side Manly United.

Speaking on his new position, Richards said:

It’s obviously been an extremely difficult few weeks for everyone involved with GCAFC with the recent departures and I can’t thank Tim enough for what he has done for me since my involvement with the club back in 2007.

When Tim decided to leave I needed time to reflect on what was best moving forward. I’m really excited to have the opportunity to manage Gloucester City AFC.

The current squad of players have not shown their full potential yet this season so I’m really looking forward to seeing what they are capable of achieving not only this season but in the future.

Richards will take charge of his first game as manager away at Truro City on Saturday 23 December.
