Lydney Town have made an impressive start to their Hellenic League campaign and now, sitting 7th in the Premier Division, Rich Kear has added a trio of new signings to his squad.
At one point Lydney had been as high as 4th in the league table, but a couple of less than favourable results have seen Kear’s men drop three places, with the side winless in their last four in the league.
Linking up with the team from National League North side Gloucester City are midfielder Alex Hainault and forward James Spruce – both are available for tonight’s game against Shrivenham.
Hainault, 29, has experience playing in Sweden before he moved to the UK and attended Hartpury College. Before signing for Gloucester, the Canadian midfielder had played most recently at Westfields.
Spruce, 19, has international experience at youth level, representing Wales last year. Before the forward signed for the Tigers in July 2019 he had been with Bristol Rovers in their academy since 2016. Whilst with Gloucester he has also appeared for Slimbridge on dual registration terms. Both players join from the Tigers on three month dual registration terms.
Completing the newly registered trio is a former Gloucester man and current Cinderford Town midfielder Sammie Hicks.
The playmaker continues his long road back from a knee injury that has seen him miss a great deal of the last two years and has joined up with the club to build up his fitness and playing time.
Speaking to Severn Sport, Lydney boss Kear gave his thoughts on the signings. “I’m happy to have some higher level experience involved with the squad to help compliment the team” he said.
“All the players are exciting and wanting to do well for the club. I think it shows how we are helping to develop players.”
