Longlevens vs Bishops Cleeve, Cinderford’s Lewis Binns & Chalford latest nominees in Severn Sport End of Season Awards

Ahead of the Severn Sport End of Season Awards 2018/19 this weekend, the latest round of nominees have been released.

Throughout the last few weeks we have been revealing nominees from all walks of Gloucestershire Football and tonight we have added more.

If you are new to the Severn Sport End of Season Awards then how nominations work for most of the awards are that Ryan and Kelsey nominate a player/club/manager each and agree on a mutual third nominee.

After confirming during the week that Bishops Cleeve pair Freddy Ward and Adam Mace were nominated for Signing of the Season, Bishops Cleeve are also included in one of the nomination slots for Game of the Season.

The Mitres’ 1-0 defeat at Longlevens is Ryan’s nomination for the Game of the Season after our man ranked his top 10 games of the season. Alongside the game is Ryan’s 2nd favourite Game of the Season in Slimbridge U18s’ 3-3 draw with Cheltenham Town U18s.

Kelsey’s nomination in the category sees the last #ButlersDayOut game, Ardley United 3-3 Longlevens.

Elsewhere, Kelsey has put forward Lewis Binns’ wonder goal in Cinderford Town’s 3-0 win over Brimscombe & Thrupp in the GFA Trophy for Goal of the Season, whilst the mutual third nomination in that category is Brad Martin’s sensational second in Longlevens’ 3-1 win over relegation rivals Abingdon United.

Ryan has named the first nomination for the newest category in the Severn Sport End of Season Awards, the Best Social Media Account. Ryan’s nomination is the club Twitter account for Chalford AFC of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League.

With the newest additions to the list of nominees, here is the current list of nominations in full:

  • Player of the season Lewis Adams (Slimbridge/u18s/FC Barometrics), Brad Martin (Bishops Cleeve/Longlevens)
  • Young player of the season – Adam Bloomfield (Slimbridge u18s/Tuffley Rovers)

  • Best Social Media Account – Chalford AFC

Ryan and Kelsey discuss one of their newest nominations below:

Kelsey: “My game of the season had everything I look for when choosing the best match of the campaign. Goals were certainly not at a premium when Longlevens travelled to Ardley in February as part of #ButlersDayOut.

Ryan and I had had a lovely day hunting for a castle that was demolished 20 years ago, but the football on show that day more than made up for it. It looked for all the world that Longlevens would be leaving Oxfordshire with the points after the man of the match, Jay Malshanskyj showed maturity beyond his years to put Levens 3-2 up with just minutes to go.

Unfortunately Ardley would score a late equaliser to break the Gloucestershire side’s hearts but for the whole game I was on the edge of my seat on commentary and watching as a neutral was exhilarating. No game over the whole season was like that and so this one gets my vote.”

Ryan: “When we were discussing the End of Season Awards and confirming the categories, I was keen to add the social media account award. We have had such a good year connecting with our followers and readers and have gained so many over the season that we wanted to acknowledge the hard-work that is put in to the accounts.

My choice was always going to be Chalford AFC’s Twitter account. They are informative and engaging and enjoy Tweeting banter and fun posts,  and in a world where everyone takes social media so seriously it is great to see an account be used in a great way.

They have their own images that they use to post matchday squads and advertise their games and it isn’t a surprise to see other Northern Senior sides now doing the same. I can’t wait for the replies to this nomination.”

The Severn Sport End of Season Awards podcast will be recorded and uploaded over the May Day Bank Holiday, more information regarding nominations and winners will be revealed between now and then.
