Gloucester City stayed top of the National League North after their come from behind 4-1 victory over a game Telford United side at Meadow Park on Tuesday night.
It was a disastrous start for the hosts when Louie Moulden scuffed his clearance and Telford man Dom McHale put the visitors in front inside 90 seconds.
But from there City slowly grew a foothold in the game and after Moulden saved a Brendon Daniels free kick, City won a corner.
From the short corner Bernard Mensah flicked the ball into the box and after striking Daniels on the arm, the penalty was given.
Forward Akwasi Asante stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way and level the game.
Asante was in the mood for sure and he nearly carved out an opportunity for himself to put the Tigers in front, when he took the ball down brilliantly on the left side of the box and saw his shot blocked after cutting one way then the other.
Mensah curled an effort from the edge of the box just on the half hour mark as City began to dictate the tempo of the game.
Alex Whittle was the next City player to go close when he met a bouncing ball in the box with a firm header that flew just wide of the post, whilst Matt McClure tested the Telford keeper Russ Griffiths from 18 yards just before the break.
The second half started with both sides working hard but not being able to carve out many chances, until Akwasi Asante managed to gain half a yard of space on the edge of the box before seeing his shot deflected home for his and City’s second of the game.
Due to a stoppage in play due to a head injury to Tommy O’Sullivan, there wasn’t much play time before City added a third through Mensah, who was found on the left side of the box before smashing home.
From there the game was over as a contest and whilst Telford continued to work hard and try to claw their way back into the contest, it came to no surprise that it was City who scored the final goal of the game.
The fourth goal came from National League North top scorer Matt McClure, who flicked the ball home at the near post after a well worked ball in from the right hand side by Kevin Dawson.
Gloucester find themselves top of the table level on points with AFC Fylde, however sit on top with a superior goal difference – having scored 10 goals more than 2nd placed Fylde.
City host Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday afternoon as they look to make it six wins from their opening seven league games.
