Kent proud to be given armband in great week for Tuffley Rovers

This week saw Tuffley Rovers get their season off and running with two league wins in a row before a 4-2 win over Malmesbury Victoria in the FA Vase and the week also saw Dom Kent named captain for the first time along the way.

After a poor start to their league campaign Rovers claimed their first point of the season with a well earned point at Longlevens on Bank Holiday Monday, a result that has started a change in fortunes for Tuffley – with league wins at Chipping Sodbury Town and Calne Town following the draw, before the big win at Malmesbury on Saturday.

With momentum now building within the camp Kent spoke to Severn Sport about wearing the armband and the weekend’s result.

“I didn’t actually play in the Vase game at the weekend due to being away, but to follow the game on Twitter and it looked like the boys continued their form with another good win and hopefully we can build on our run of good performances.

It was a great moment for me personally to be given the captains armband the other day. I have been at Tuffley for a number of years now so I am very proud to not only get the armband but to also lead the team in a good away win – getting the three points made it even more special on the day,” said Kent.

During the run for Tuffley they have seen goals come from all over, with Harry Morgan scoring twice at the weekend and recent signing Brennan Denness-Barrett scoring in his first two matches for the club and Kent has praised his new teammate for having such an impressive impact to the side.

“Brennan has come in and has instantly made an impact to the side and really he has come in at a good time,” said Kent.

“He has fit into the team very quickly and as a team we like how he plays and what he brings to us as an attacking side. It has been a very good start from him but he has to keep it up of course.

I am sure he will score plenty of goals for us and can hopefully help us continue to climb the table in the next few weeks,” added Kent.

Tuffley are back in action at the weekend and are set to play their first game at home for the first time in 2021 when they host Brimscombe & Thrupp at Glevum Park on Saturday (18th September) and will be looking to make it three wins in a row in the league.
