Tuffley Rovers have signed forward Lee Smith, two days after the striker announced his departure from Fairford Town on social media.
Smith, 35, spoke to Severn Sport ahead of Friday night’s Severn Sport Night In show where he told us that after so many years of playing for money he is looking to give something back to Gloucestershire football.
The former Gloucester City, Forest Green Rovers, Weston-super-Mare, Telford United, Slimbridge, Cinderford Town, Cirencester Town & Fairford Town man joins the Robins’ Hellenic League rivals Tuffley and said that whilst he is fully aware of his journeyman tag, he is looking to settle down and enjoy his football as his career starts to wind down.
Smith, who scored 22 goals in the league last season told Severn Sport’s Ryan Butler on the show that he still believes he is good enough to play as a striker in the Hellenic League and believes his experience can prove crucial to a Rovers side that consistently includes a number of teenagers in the match day squad.
Severn Sport understands that Smith’s paperwork is to be completed and verified tomorrow morning, meaning the forward should be available for Tuffley’s home fixture against Royal Wootton Bassett Town in the Bluefin Challenge Cup.
You will be able to hear the full interview with Tuffley’s new striker on Friday Night’s Severn Sport Night In live on Severn Sport, from 19:30
