This weekend saw a bad day at the office for all six of our local sides in the Hellenic Premier, as they all tasted defeat away from home.
Both Tuffley Rovers & Fairford Town remain in the bottom three and are yet to take a point this season after defeats away to Ardley United & Reading City respectively.
Tuffley’s Dom Kent scored his first goal in senior football as he gave Rovers a lifeline in their 2-1 defeat in Oxfordshire. Goals for Deon Gallagher & Louis Joyce were enough to see Craig Adey’s men pick up their first points of the season.
Alfie Grant and a Mitchell Parker double helped Reading City to a 3-1 win over Fairford Town. Striker Jon Thomas scored for the third time this season to make it 2-1 but Fairford’s quest for points continue.
Longlevens striker James Campbell scored his third goal in four games but saw his side of the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline at Brackley Town Saints. Goals for Harry Brock, Chris Jordan and an own goal sees Longlevens’ goals against tally reach 9 from 4 league games. Myron Turner pulled one back to set up a grand stand finish but to no avail.
Longlevens had former Slimbridge goalkeeper Ollie Hall between the sticks (as in the cover photo), however his future remains unclear.
Brackley like Reading City sit in the top three on a 100% record after their victory.
Lewis Thompson continued his good start to the season by putting Lydney Town ahead at Ascot United. However, Ascot forward Nathan Minhas took his tally to 9 for the season with his second hattrick of the campaign. Harry Lafflin completed the scoring as Ascot ran out 4-1 winners in the end.
Muhamadou Ceesay’s brace saw Flackwell Heath beat Brimscombe & Thrupp 2-0 in a game that saw two of the most consistent sides of the 2017/18 go head to head.
The above three local sides sit 12th (Longlevens), 13th (Lydney Town) & 14th (Brimscombe & Thrupp) respectively.
Bishops Cleeve are the highest ranked Gloucestershire side in the league as they dropped to 6th place after a 3-1 defeat away at pre-season title favourites Wantage Town. Jack Dunmall & Harvey Scholes scored inside the first 20 minutes to give Wantage a two goal advantage before Jack Watts pulled one back for the Mitres. Connor Mattimore scored a third for the hosts after coming off the bench.
Cleeve’s misery was compounded after goalkeeper Lewis Clayton was sent off with just four minutes left.
Five of our six sides will get a chance to get back on the winning trial tomorrow night with a plethora of local games. Lydney Town host Longlevens, looking to complete the double over their Gloucester based side. Fairford Town welcome local rivals Royal Wootton Bassett Town to Cinder Lane looking to avenge their 2-1 defeat at Bassett just two weeks ago.
There will be a lot of eyes on Kayte Lane as Brimscombe & Thrupp travel to Bishops Cleeve hoping to do what Cleeve did to them at The Meadow two weeks ago. In our featured game that night goals from Elliott Kennedy & Jack Watts saw Bishops Cleeve beat last season’s highest ranked Gloucestershire side.
Tuffley Rovers are not scheduled a fixture during the midweek but after the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round results, their home fixture against Reading City has been moved from February 2019 to this Saturday. Kick off at 15:00.
