Even though there is a week before the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League properly kicks off, the 30 of the 32 sides got their first taste of competitive football of the campaign – with the First Round of the Reg Davis Cup.
Two sides unfortunately didn’t get their tie played as Cam Bulldogs were unable to raise a side against Longlevens Reserves, so the latter were awarded a walk through into the next round.
In the games that did get played Abbeymead Rovers defeated Taverners 2-1, thanks to goals from Jack Ashmead and Daniel Webb.
The 2017/18 Division One Champions Charlton Rovers beat a spirited Barnwood United side at the Walls Club 3-1 to advance into round two.
Stonehouse Town Reserves and Staunton & Corse, two of Division Two’s newest sides both won away from home to go through – as they beat Bredon and Leonard Stanley respectively.
Another new side to the League, Andoversford, went down 3-1 away to the newly merged Smiths Barometrics, whilst Kings Stanley won 3-1 at Charfield to win in a fixture that saw the top two of last season’s Stroud League go head to head.
Last season’s beaten finalists English Bicknor are out after losing 3-2 on penalties to Lydney Town Reserves, after the sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Chalford, who finished runners up in Division One last season, beat last season’s Division Two Champions Woolaston 2-1 – with goals from Ed Parsloe and Andy Maryon for the visitors.
Harrow Hill narrowly edged out Upton St Leonards 3-2, whilst Whitecroft ran out 4-1 winners against a young Tuffley Rovers Reserves side, at Glevum Park.
Cheltenham Civil Service comfortably beat Winchcombe Town 4-0 to advance, whilst Brockworth Albion went one better and beat Broadwell Amateurs 5-0.
Last season’s bottom club, Bibury, also scored 5 as they beat Falcons 5-2, whilst Frampton United Reserves went one better by beating Lydbrook Athletic 6-0.
Berkeley Town also booked their place in Round Two, with a 2-1 win over FC Lakeside.
