Former Dagenham & Redbridge defender signs for Gloucester City to complete double swoop

Gloucester City have confirmed the signing of defender Luke Pennell from Maidstone United and that he will be straight into the squad for the trip to Guiseley this weekend.

The 23 year old joins the Tigers on the same day as striker Matt McClure, who signed for the National League North side on Friday lunchtime.

Pennell, who can operate at both left back and left sided centre half and will provide both cover and competition for the likes of Sam Avery, Spencer Hamilton and Jack Senior.

Speaking to Severn Sport about the signing, Gloucester City manager James Rowe confirmed he was delighted to bring in Pennell and that he hopes the signing shows “our intentions for the squad we are looking to build.”

Pennell started out at MK Dons before stints with Rushden & Diamonds, Banbury Town and Dunstable Town before making the move to Dagenham & Redbridge – who were in League Two at the time.
