Former Cardiff City, Derby County & Stoke City academy coach in the running for Gloucester City job

Earlier on this evening Severn Sport confirmed the departure of Gloucester City manager Marc Richards, as he moves to National League North side Hereford. Already talk has begun that his successor could be installed sooner than first thought.

Severn Sport understands that former Bangor City and Cardiff City U23 manager Kevin Nicholson is the front runner to take over the Tigers, with provisional talks having already taken place between the club and his representatives.

The 32 year old coach has over a decade of experience and has coached at both academy and first team levels in his career.

After an 8 months stint at then Premier League side Stoke City, Nicholson spent five years at Derby County. During his stint at Pride Park, Nicholson was the Assistant Coach of the U18s side whilst coaching the U12s side. He then moved his attentions to U16 level for the next two years.

A great 10 month period for Nicholson as Exeter City U18s manager saw him swiftly move on to Cardiff City, where guided the U18s side to their highest ever league position in the Professional U18 Development League.

In just 16 months in the role Nicholson guided his Cardiff City U18s side to the FA Youth Cup last 16 for the first time in seven seasons.

Nicholson was a part of the coaching set up with the first team during the 2014/15 season, before taking over as Head Coach of the U23s side where he stayed before being named manager of Bangor City in the Welsh Premier League for the 17/18 season.

The young coach guided Bangor to a runners up finish last season, their highest league finish in six seasons.

As confirmed by the club earlier on today, Tom Webb & Mike Green will be in temporary charge of Gloucester City until a new manager is installed.
