Football League clubs send scouts to watch Cinderford Town full back

Cheltenham Town and Forest Green Rovers are among the Football League clubs monitoring 16 year-old Cinderford Town left back Callum Wood.

Wood, who signed from National League North side Hereford FC, has turned in a string of good performances that have caught the eye of the League Two sides and an unnamed Championship club.

Scouts were at tonight’s Southern League Division One South clash between The Foresters and Bristol Manor Farm, where they saw a good showing from Wood.

The young full back has quickly become a key player in Paul Michael’s side and at 16 has shown maturity beyond his years having been thrust into the starting XI.

Cinderford ran out comfortable 5-1 winners over their Bristol opponents in a victory that sees them climb the table to 7th, ahead of local rivals Slimbridge and Evesham United, as they make up their games in hand.

An early wonder strike by Manor Farm left back Mason Winter left the hosts stunned, before Aaron Bashford bundled the ball home after Craig Norman headed down Wood’s deep cross.

Josh Hunt then followed up with a hat trick featuring two top class strikes either side of an easy header at the back post.

Lorcan Sheehan almost got in on the act of the wonder goals himself but he could only fire narrowly over the top with a fierce strike from range.

James Harding completed the rout from the penalty spot after Joe Turley was fouled in the box.

Wood had previously caught the eye during Saturday’s 4-0 win at Evesham United, where the full back scored a sensational strike during the Foresters’ win.
