Jack Watts says he is extremely proud to have played for his local club so much after his move from Bishops Cleeve to Stourport Swifts was confirmed on Tuesday.
The Midland Premier League side announced the transfer on Tuesday afternoon on Twitter and it sees the Mitres’ forward move on to a new challenge.
Speaking to Severn Sport following the news, Watts admits that leaving Kayte Lane is the hardest decision he has had to make in football.
“It was the hardest decision I’ve had to make within football. I’ve been at Bishops Cleeve for many years now and made some real good mates along the way.
I’ve had such a good relationship with all the managers/staff along with the players who have been good mates of mine for years and it will be hard to match the morale they have in that changing room, but it was time for a change.
I don’t know exactly how many games I have played for them but it’s three figures for sure and to play that many games for my local team is very pleasing on a personal note! The club means a lot to me and always will,” Watts said.
Watts leaves Kayte Lane after a season that saw him start like a house on fire and ended as the Hellenic League’s top scorer with 32 goals and admits he cannot wait to get started with a new challenge at Stourport.
“I’m really excited to get started,” said Watts. “I’ve been there and seen the stadium and it’s a lovely ground, everyone there from staff to players have been so welcoming and I can’t wait to get out there, especially after it being so long since the league got cancelled.
The manager tried to sign me last season and he was the first to ring me a day or two after the league ended. So it’s a pleasure to have someone so keen to sign me. He’s been so patient with me as it wasn’t an easy decision but I hope I can repay him when I get back on the pitch!” Added Watts.
Watts has caught the eye of everyone at Severn Sport over the last three seasons, after unfortunately being part of the Cleeve side who were relegated from the Southern League and despite interest from a number of clubs over the last couple of years, Watts has featured prominently during their time in the Hellenic League.
The forward took to social media to thank everyone for their support whilst he was at Kayte Lane and has thanked manager Stephen Cleal for his support over the years.
“I have messaged everyone within the club individually as it only felt fair as they have been so brilliant with me during my time at the club and they all know how grateful I am for everything.
As you know Steve [Stephen Cleal] has been my manager for many years at Cleeve and before and it’s always been my pleasure. He and the players know as I’ve told them that I’m only a message away, but I will stay in touch with them all and I wish the great club all the best on their push for promotion!” Watts said.
