City fans rally after manager Richards leaves to join Harris at Hereford

Gloucester City fans have taken to social media to rally together after news was announced earlier this evening that manager Marc Richards has left the club to take the vacant post at National League North side Hereford FC.

After Peter Beadle’s departure from the Bulls, former Gloucester City manager Tim Harris was installed as Head Of Football and immediately rumours circulated that Richards was in contention for the job.

In a statement issued on the club website, Richards has explained his decision for leaving and thanked the fans. He said,

“It’s with a heavy heart that I leave Gloucester City. I have been involved with Gloucester City on and off for over 11 years as a player, player-coach, assistant manager and more recently as manager. The progress that has been made throughout the Club and on the Stadium in these past 10 months has been extremely encouraging. However, I have an opportunity I have felt too good to pass up.

I would like to thank all the volunteers at the Club, the management board and the supporters for their faith in me this year and most importantly the players who have given their all for me during my time at the club. I wish them and Gloucester City Football Club all the best for the future and I hope Gloucester are back in the city soon”.

The announcement of another managerial change at the National League South side has seen City fans take to social media to thank Richards for his work for the club, with fan account The VOTTE (The Voice Of The T-End) tweeting a series of messages of positivity for the fans.

Along with Richards, player/assistant manager Will Morford & performance analyst Luke Brick have also moved to Edgar Street. The first team will be managed by club legend Tom Webb & Mike Green for the FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round tie at home to Dorking Wanderers on Saturday, with interviews for the job taking place in due course.
