Chivers delighted as Hardwicke start new season with 3-0 win

Hardwicke manager Lee Chivers praised his side for a clinical display as he saw his side kick off their Gloucestershire County League season with a 3-0 win at home to Little Stoke.

Goals from Steve Bick, Brad Bevan and Ash Bird saw Hardwicke claim a confidence boosting win to start building momentum from the off.

After the game Chivers spoke to Severn Sport about his side’s performance and also the fact his side were able to start this campaign positively, following a tough start in their 2019/20 season.

“Yeah of course I’m really happy with the game. Obviously we weren’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but what we were were very organised, patient in possession and a threat in the final third.

Throughout pre-season as a group we’ve obviously spoken a lot about our poor start last year and it was important to get that monkey of our back from day one and now we have done that, hopefully we can all move on from that now and kick on,” said Chivers.

As mentioned both Brad Bevan and Ash Bird got themselves on the scoresheet on their debuts and Chivers has praised the attitudes of both players and believes it’s just the beginning for the pair.

“Scoring on their first game gives them both confidence from the off and that’s important when joining a new club. Both have had an excellent attitude since signing and I’m sure there’s plenty more to come from both of them, which is hopefully going to be exciting for us,” Chivers added.

With the first 90 minutes under their belts, Hardwicke will be looking to continue their form from the end of last season, but Chivers has called on his side to take it one game at a time and try to build on the previous season.

“It’s a classic football cliche to say it, but we haven’t discussed any targets as such – we’re just taking it one game at a time and we’re see where we’re at come Christmas time once the league settles down a little.

The aim of the club on the whole is to always improve from the previous season and that will never change though,” said the Hardwicke boss.
