Cheltenham Saracens go top after five star display at Worcester Raiders

Cheltenham Saracens have gone top of the Hellenic League Division One table after a 5-2 win away at Worcester Raiders.

Kai Mahon’s header before the quarter of an hour mark saw Saracens go 1-0 up before Worcester came from behind to lead 2-1 at half time.

But Saracens, who are now nine unbeaten in the league, including eight wins, levelled through Jordan Bryan.

Bryan, who had been carrying a knock, began linking up well with Mahon to start to really look dangerous for Sarries.

Mahon got his second of the game to put his side 3-2 up with a goal described as a “screamer” on the club’s Facebook page.

Harry Duncan came off the bench to add two more goals for his side including scoring with his first touch to initially put Saracens 4-2 up.

His second goal came when Jordan Bryan broke and whilst on the counter played in Duncan, who slotted home to complete the goalfest.

The win sees Saracens go a point in front of FC Stratford with the two sides set to meet in two weeks time.

Saracens have a tough November ahead of them and if they are still in the top two afterwards then they will fancy themselves to stay there in the second half of the seeason.

After they host FC Stratford on Saturday 6th November they face two difficult away games in Hereford Pegasus (Saturday 13th November) and a County Cup trip to Tuffley Rovers (Tuesday 16th November).

Saracens then host local rivals Shortwood United on Saturday 20th November to round off the month, in what will be Severn Sport’s featured game that weekend.

They end October by hosting Cirencester Town Development at the Big Local Stadium next weekend.
