Brimscombe & Thrupp have bolstered their forward line ahead of the visit of Reading City by signing striker James Campbell from local rivals Longlevens until the end of the season.
Campbell, Levens’ top goalscorer with 13 goals this campaign, joins the Lilywhites as manager Sam Prior looks to add some fire power after James Singh was ruled out with a “long term injury.”
“We recently lost James Singh to injury so we had another space in the squad for a striker. After seeing his outstanding performance against us recently, we thought that James would suit our style of play and would offer competition to Jack Smith as a proper number 9.” Prior told us after the signing was confirmed.
Brimscombe, who currently sit 3rd in the Hellenic Premier, will have their new striker available for their home fixture with Reading City ahead of a top of the table clash with Wantage Town next Saturday. And with a run coming up of winnable games, Prior acknowledged just how important it is for his side to gather momentum after a week without a game.
“It is very vital for us to keep picking up points where and when we can with a tough set of fixtures left to play. We hope James will be able to come straight in, hit the ground running and add to his impressive 13 goals tally.”
The move sees bottom placed Longlevens go into their Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup game at the weekend, against Langley, with only Isaac Johns and Shaun O’Connor as recognised forwards. However O’Connor has found himself in a deeper role as of late.
Campbell’s departure also means that Levens have lost their two leading scorers, after Myron Turner departed for Southern League side Slimbridge earlier in the season. Their now current top scorer is central midfielder Jonty Welch, who scored two in their 3-2 defeat at Ascot last weekend.
Severn Sport understands that the former Fairford Town & Evesham United striker will be on the bench for his new side against Reading City on Saturday.
