Mitres forward Jack Watts raced to 32 goals this season before the 2019/20 season was suspended, with results expunged and for that is our final nomination for Player of the Season. Watts is joined by striker Connor Thompson, who’s goals helped turned Fairford Town into title challengers before departing for America at the turn of the year – and is our joint nominee for being Signing of the Season, and both Hellenic Premier side Longlevens and Stroud League leaders Dursley Town, who are both up for Team of the Season.

Ryan had this to say about the latest nominees:

Jack is one of the players who your heart goes out to regarding the season being expunged. He was having that season that for me he needed! Bishops Cleeve got relegated from the Southern League and he was one of the players who stayed loyal and one of the players we all looked at for Cleeve to mount a promotion push. For me, he never really got going in the 18/19 season and needed to find his love of the game again….he has that now and honestly, if Cleeve are going to mount a title challenge they not only need him, but they need to almost build the team around his strengths.

Connor Thompson would have been up for Player of the Season in any other year. He could easily be up for Severn Sport Live Player of the Season too for how consistent and prolific he has been all season long. He bossed defenders home and away and played a crucial role in the season at Cinder Lane. Fairford once again recruited well to replace him when he emigrated to the U.S. but he was a major player throughout.

When it came to the Team of the Season Longlevens got my nomination (shock!) for a record breaking season they were achieving, both in the Hellenic Premier and also by reaching the 2nd Round of the FA Vase. They also had a decent FA Cup run compared to other seasons and for me they were the team of the season.

But as our joint nomination, Kelsey and I went with Dursley Town of the Stroud League. I know full well there will be people reading this saying “well they threw money at it, blah blah blah” and really there is nothing wrong with trying to show ambition to expand and climb the non-league pyramid. Dursley Town had only lost one league game all season and were looking to achieve on all on fronts. You can’t deny they were set for a successful season.

The Severn Sport End of Season Awards 2019/20 will be spanned over the Easter Weekend with the winners revealed throughout. Check the website everyday as we continue to reveal and announce the nominees.
