Gloucester City suprisingly release October’s Player of the month

Gloucester City midfielder Jamie Edge has announced on social media that he has been released by the club, despite being named player of the month for October.

Edge, 25, started his career with Arsenal before a spell at West Brom before signing for the Tigers during the 2013/14 season. The midfielder then had stints at Weston Super-Mare and Hereford United before returning to City last season.

The club are yet to make an official announcement about Edge’s departure but it appears new manager Chris Todd is looking to build his squad as the Tigers bid to avoid relegation from the National League South.

After a 2-1 defeat to Dartford yesterday, Gloucester find themselves in 18th position, just three points out of the relegation zone. The defeat also sees their winless run stretch to 7 games, with their last win coming back on the 1st September – a 2-1 win away at Hungerford Town.

Edge took to Twitter to announce the decision and also thank the club and fans for the support over the years. Everyone now awaits a statement from the club.

Edge was also named on the subs bench for Severn Sport’s Team Of The Month for October after a textbook display in the County Cup win over Cirencester Town. Check out the full team here.
