Slimbridge celebrate off field award ahead of big midweek double header

Slimbridge have kick started a big week for the club on the field with an acknowledgement to all of their hard work off it, by coming top in the Respect Awards Table for the Southern League Division One South  for the 2018/19 season.

The table ranks the sides in the league based on the number of points scored for respect and facilities based on a series of referee reports. Points are scored depending on the quality of each section which includes; officials areas/benches, match official’s dressing room & overall hospitality.

Marks are deducted for cautions for dissent as well as being dismissed for foul & abusive language.

The Swans ranked highest with a whopping 128 points, 24 points from their nearest rivals Bideford AFC (104 points) with league newboys Blackfield & Langley third on 102 points.

Other Gloucestershire based sides ranked outside the top six, with Cinderford 7th on 90 points, Evesham United 12th with 77 points & Cirencester Town back in 16th on 67 points.

Slimbridge club secretary Colin Gay has praised the hard work of club members and volunteers who help the club run on a match day.

“We all work so hard at the football club to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone who passes through our gates. It’s early days but being top of the league’s respect table is very pleasing indeed. I am chuffed to bits for all of our hard working members and match day volunteers and I know that Barry our chairman is over the moon.”

We also spoke to Colin about the upcoming midweek double header for the club. The first team travel to Winchester City in the FA Trophy whilst the impressive U18s side make their way to Plainmoor for their FA Youth Cup tie with Torquay United, with both games taking place tomorrow evening.

“Having two big cup ties for the club on the same night is actually quite disappointing to be honest. We are gutted that we cannot travel to watch the U18s at Torquay and give them our support. However, it’s a sign that things are going well both on and off the field so we will take that!”

“The club have booked two coaches to take our respective teams and supports to both games and I know that officers from both teams will be in contact throughout the evening. It is a fantastic achievement for the whole club and everyone who works so hard day to day.”

Good luck to both Slimbridge sides in action tomorrow night from everyone at Severn Sport.
