Gloucestershire based journeyman Lee Smith has left Hellenic Premier side Fairford Town, the striker has confirmed on social media this evening.
During his illustrious career Smith has played for Gloucester City, Cirencester Town, Forest Green Rovers, Cinderford Town, Slimbridge and most recently Fairford Town as the striker has scored goals everywhere he has played.
In his debut season for Fairford Town last term he scored 22 goals in a season that saw the Robins battling to avoid the drop for the most part of the campaign.
In a post on his Facebook page Smith said that he had made a hard decision to leave Cinder Lane but thanked first team manager Jody Bevan and club chairman Stuart Pike for all of their backing in his time at the club and wished Fairford good luck for the rest of the season.
Fairford currently find themselves at the foot of the Hellenic Premier after only one win in their opening 8 games, which was a 3-2 win away at second bottom Abingdon United on Saturday.
Smith departs Fairford after scoring just two goals this season with both goals coming at home, one in a 3-3 draw with Royal Wootton Bassett Town and the other in Fairford’s 3-1 defeat against Gloucestershire rivals Brimscombe & Thrupp.
Whilst it is unknown at this stage where Lee Smith will be heading next for his football, everyone at Severn Sport hopes he doesn’t stay away from local football for too long!
