Adam Bloomfield scored twice as Slimbridge U18s came from behind to knock Tuffley Rovers U18s out of the FA Youth Cup, winning 4-1 in a feisty encounter.
Tuffley took the lead with just 3 minutes on the clock, when a free kick was swung deep from the left. Defender Nathan Clift met the ball with a side footed volley and placed his effort beyond keeper Lewis Adams.
Adams was playing for Slimbridge U18s just 24 hours after he played for 120 minutes for FC Barometrics in the Reg Davis Cup Final.
Taylor Buckland nearly equalised just five minutes later when Raiyan Ahmed’s diagonal pass fell to Taylor Buckland, who’s effort was blocked on its way towards goal.
The game started fairly open, with both sides exchanging chances. Niall Priday went close after stepping onto an effort on the edge of the box. His effort though went just wide.
Ahmed was slipped in one on one for Slimbridge but he was denied by Tuffley keeper Kane Hyett.
Fintan Small fired over for Slimbridge as the Young Swans pressed for an equaliser. They nearly found it when Fin Brown headed a corner towards goal, only to see Hyett claw the ball away from goal.
The first flashpoint of the game was an off the ball incident between Kai Jordan-Nicholls & Bloomfield. The linesman flagged after seeing an altercation and both players were shown a yellow card.
The second half started with both sides getting stuck in to each other as the wind swirled around and the rain began to fall hard. Slimbridge won a free kick on the right hand side and it lead to the next flashpoint between the sides.
As the ball pinballed around the ball was cleared. Adam Bloomfield went down and the red card was shown to Tuffley captain Ethan Ravenhill. It appeared to be a supposed kick out by the defender that was very difficult to see. However, the ref did and the penalty was given.
Bloomfield stepped up to make it 1-1, sending Hyett the wrong way. And with that Slimbridge took control of the game.
Just five minutes after the penalty Bloomfield find himself one on one with Hyett and he calmly slotted the ball beyond Hyett to turn the game around completely.
Both sides began to commit needless fouls and the game became very scrappy. The adverse weather conditions didn’t help but at times it felt petulant from both sets of players.
Two goals in two minutes for Slimbridge sealed the win as the Young Swans advance to the next round. First, Taylor Buckland was played in one on one, with the winger placing the ball past Hyett.
Then following a corner from the right, Slimbridge captain Finley Byrnes headed in a well taken fourth.
