FC Barometrics beat English Bicknor 5-4 on penalties to win the Reg Davis Cup, after the two battled to a 1-1 draw after extra time.
The Gloucestershire Northern Senior League sides took to the field at Slimbridge AFC’s Thornhill Park and the game was a cagey affair early on.
English Bicknor nearly scored inside the opening five minutes when Chris Addis arrived late at the back post to volley goalwards. Barometrics keeper Lewis Adams pulled off a great stop to deny him.
Bicknor, who included four members of the Addis family in their squad settled into their stride quicker than their Division One counterparts, with Darryl Addis firing wide after a ball in from James Davies on the left.
As the half wore on Barometrics became more composed on the ball and this saw space open up in the middle of park for Mike Short, Joseph Finch and Callum Debonis.
Declan Chick went close for Baros after great play down the right involving Lucas Price and David Soule.
Bicknor goalkeeper Craig Edwards kept out Brett Blake at one end with Adams denying Darryl Addis again from a tight angle.
Just after the half hour mark and the deadlock was broken. After a short corner from the left was dummied, Callum Debonis stepped onto the ball before side-footing it high and in off the crossbar.
The FC Barometrics players, staff and fans went crazy as their side lead at the break but English Bicknor continued to grind them down into the second half.
Bicknor, who were forced into two changes in the first half looked dangerous down the right through Stuart Brown and Julian Addis.
Darryl Addis continued to run the channels well and he seemed the most likely to find an equaliser.
After a set piece in from the left the ball fell to the forward who took it down exquisitely before firing it back across goal and in off a Baros defender. It was heading in from where we were so there was never any doubt, it was Addis’ goal.
Both sides were tiring, which was to be expected, but the youthful endeavour of the FC Barometrics side saw them grow stronger as we ticked neared extra time.
Baros defender Fin Powell was winning header after header and was the man stopping every English Bicknor attack it felt in the second half. He nearly created a winner for Baros when he carried the ball 50 yards into the left wing position but the shot was smothered as he crossed the ball.
Into extra time and Lewis Adams produced the save of the match and the outstanding moment in the extra period with an outstanding stop to deny Julian Addis. A deep cross from the left was met by a bullet header by the winger and almost Gordan Banks like, Adams through himself down low to keep the ball out.
That was the moment we all knew the game would be decided on penalties.
Chris Addis was sent off late on in extra time for a second bookable offence but FC Barometrics didn’t really have enough time to make their man advantage count.
Unfortunately there always has to be a loser in a shoot out and the crucial penalty fell to Julian Addis, who fired wide to see FC Barometrics take the win, 5-4 on spotkicks.
Congratulations to FC Barometrics for winning the Red Davis Cup but also a Congratulations to English Bicknor on making the final and playing their part in a wonderful final.
