Gloucestershire Northern Senior League side Ellwood AFC have today announced they are to withdraw from the league with immediate effect.
The Forest of Dean based side earned their place in the GNSL after winning the North Gloucestershire League’s Premier Division by 5 clear points.
They had found life in the higher league tough, losing their first four league games as well as being defeated in the First Round of the Reg Davis Memorial Cup, losing at home to FC Lakeside 5-1.
From their four league games Ellwood had lost 8-1, 4-0, 8-0 and 2-0 in their most recent fixture, also at home to FC Lakeside.
Their scheduled fixture away to Bredon on Saturday 15th September was postponed, with the GNSL provisionally postponing all fixtures involving Ellwood up until the start of November.
With the season still relatively new it is unclear what will happen regarding relegations, but it is easy to assume that only two sides will now be relegated after the league concludes in March.
Ellwood posted the announcement on their Twitter account earlier today and now we wait for the next steps for the club.
Ellwood’s Reserve side currently play in Division 2 of the North Gloucestershire League and currently find themselves 3rd after 3 games.
Announcement!! ⚽️After a club emergency meeting last night we came to a agreement that we have no other choice but to pull the 1st team out the Northern-Senior League 2 after just getting promoted. This is due to lack of backing from the players at the club sad times🔵😢
