On This Day: Ardley United 2-4 Longlevens – FA Vase 9th September 2017

Here at Severn Sport we always take time to appreciate our journey to where we are today and we enjoy looking back through the archives at games we have covered.

A year ago today our man Ryan Butler set off with Longlevens for his (and our) first ever FA Vase match live on Severn Sport. The destination, Ardley United.

Longlevens were going into the game having never won a game in the competition and would be going head to head against a side who ended up romping home with the Hellenic League Division One West Title.

What unfolded was a great advert for local and non-league football with a second half that produced five goals and some fast flowing football.

Shaun O’Connor diverted a Brad Vanstone shot into the net just before half time. O’Connor doubled Levens’ lead before Ardley decided to make a good go of it. Alex Feaver pulled one back before Dave Merrick restored the two goal cushion.

The end to end second half saw Ardley score a second through Connor Harris and then the inform Jay Kennedy rifled one home from nearly 30 yards to secure the win and secure the historical moment in Longlevens’ history.

Longlevens would go on to beat Tytherington Rocks in the next round as they reached the 1st Round proper of the FA Vase in a run that will always be remembered as the first time Levens managed the feat.

Ultimately they would end up losing 2-1 away at Sevenoaks Town but the Vase run of 2017 was a special moment in Longlevens’ history.

The match against Ardley United even made our top 10 games of the season list for the 2017/18 season.

You can listen to the game in full below.

A year on and Longlevens are a game away from the 1st Round of the FA Vase again. Their opponents? Tuffley Rovers. We will be at the game on Friday 14th September at Saw Mills with live coverage throughout.
