Young Rovers make history with dominating second half in FA Youth Cup win

Tuffley Rovers U18s advanced into the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup for the first time ever this evening, winning 6-1 against Bitton AFC after five second half goals.

Rovers went into the game looking to make it three wins in three days for a Tuffley Rovers side after Tuffley Reserves secured their first league win of the season on Tuesday night and the first team emulating that feat in their local derby against Longlevens on Wednesday evening.

After a tight opening half an hour Rovers broke the deadlock through Jack Ellis on 36 minutes. The midfielder broke forward into space on the right side of the box. Ellis twisted one way then the other to shake off the defender before firing across goal. His shot went through Bitton goalkeeper Dan Fletcher into the back of the net.

The goal gave Tuffley a deserved lead at the break but it was after the interval where they really began to turn on the style.

Kyle Rogers came on for the injured Charlie Bacon just before the break and it was Rogers who was at the heart of the second goal. Just minutes after the second half started Rogers found space on the right side of the box, worked a yard of space and drilled the ball low and hard across goal.

The ball rebounded off Bitton defender Sam Parsons into the net, with Niall Priday lurking just behind. Priday only had to wait a few minutes before chalking his name on the scoresheet.

Again Rogers got in on the right side of the box but this time his effort on goal was spilled by Fletcher and Priday slammed the ball home.

Tuffley soon made it four and Priday notched his second of the game just after the hour mark with the Tuffley forward converting a Rylee Mace cross at the back post.

The fifth goal belonged to Mace, who deserved a goal for his display. After a short corner to Mace saw him inside the Bitton penalty area and his shot squeezed in at the near post.

Two goals in two minutes finished off the scoring, with Callum Beale pulling a goal back before Kyle Rogers got the goal he deserved. Rogers fired the ball into the corner after exchanging passes with the ever impressive Niall Priday.

Tuffley Rovers U18s will now host Midland Floodlit Youth League & local rivals Slimbridge AFC in the FA Youth Cup 1st Qualifying Round. The tie will be played at Glevum Park the week commencing Monday 17th September 2018 and will be live on Severn Sport.
