Gloucestershire tennis player Alicia Barnett has leapt up twenty places to 533rd in the world in the latest WTA World Rankings.
The rankings were released this week (Monday 20th August 2018) and they have seen Barnett rewarded for an excellent performance in the $25,000 Gatineau Tour event in July.
The event in Gatineau Canada saw Barnett reach the semi-finals where she was unfortunately defeated in straight sets by Australia’s Astra Sharma.
In the earlier rounds Barnett beat Japanese player and 330th in the world Erika Sema in the opening round in straight sets.
Barnett would then go on to take the scalp of Australian and 159th in the world Olivia Rogowska as well as Canadian and 291st in the world Katherine Sebov.
Since the event Barnett has qualified for the main draw in the recent Chiswick tour event, which saw her reach the last 16, before she was defeated by fellow Brit Samantha Murray.
The leap in rankings now sees Barnett sit as Britain’s 19th highest ranked female player, with only Samantha Murray moving up more places (40 places).
Barnett comes from a sporting family, with brother James currently playing football for Hellenic League side Longlevens.
