Gloucester City have confirmed the signing of three new faces as they look to strengthen their squad for the new National League South season.
Former Weston-Super-Mare attacking midfielder Jake Mawford has signed with the Tigers after an impressive pre-season, including two convincing performances in the Severn Sport Shield earlier in July.
He is joined by former Cheltenham Town winger Jamal Lawrence, who has re-signed after initially joining Gloucester back in March for the remainder of the 2017/18 season.
The third new man in is striker Ben Seymour. The Exeter City man has joined on an initial loan after spending last season scoring goals for Southern League outfit Bideford AFC.
In a statement on the Gloucester City website, first team manager Marc Richards has said following the confirmation of the signings.
“I’m delighted to be able to sign both Jake and Jamal. Both give us options up front and have been brilliant in pre-season. Jamal showed his quality at the end of last season for us at National League level and Jake is also proven in this league, has great vision and is great at bringing others into play. In terms of the start of the season, I think we’re just about there. There are a few injury niggles that we’re managing but nothing that should concern us for the beginning of the coming league campaign.”
“We’re really excited to be able to bring in Ben. He’s someone that we think will give us strength in depth but also provide competition for our forwards. He gives us options and with a long season coming up with hopefully better runs in the cups, it’s vital we have that squad depth.”
Gloucester City continue their pre-season tomorrow afternoon when they travel to the Corinium Stadium to take on former Tiger Charlie Griffin and his Cirencester Town side. Kick off is at 2pm. On Monday City travel to Gloucestershire FA HQ to take on Bristol City u23s in the re-arranged final of the 2017/18 GFA County Cup.
