Throughout the day the fixtures have been released for the Hellenic League UHL Premier Division and for us in Gloucestershire, the excitement has reached new levels.
We finally have answers to questions such as, who will each club start off against? Who plays who over Christmas? When is the Brad Martin derby? And so on.
Here at Severn Sport we are all about the all-Gloucestershire fixtures and we have already filled in our diaries with the 30, yes 30 dates where our sides face off against one another. But first in case you have missed it here are the opening day fixtures involving our sides.
Saturday 4th August
Bishops Cleeve vs Ascot United
Brimscombe & Thrupp vs Windsor
Fairford Town vs Wantage Town
Longlevens vs Flackwell Heath
Lydney Town vs Brackley Town Saints
Royal Wootton Bassett vs Tuffley Rovers
Five of the six Gloucestershire sides start at home, with Tuffley making the trip to Wiltshire for a fairly close encounter. All six games will be watched with an eagle eye. How will Cleeve fair in their first game back in the league, against one of the fancies for the title? Brimscombe will be looking to lay down a marker against a side who made the quarter final of the FA Vase last season in Windsor. Fairford will be hosting one of the favourites for the league title in Wantage and Longlevens will be hosting a Flackwell Heath side who were in the top six last term all season.
Lydney hosting Brackley Town Saints is a very winnable game for the hosts, whilst the visitors are now the only reserve side in the league after the withdrawal of Oxford City Nomads over the summer. Wootton Bassett lost a few players towards the end of last season and will be looking to get off to a good start against a Tuffley Rovers side that are still being gelled together.
