Longlevens add versatile defender to the ranks for new season

Hellenic Premier side Longlevens have added two defenders to their squad for the 2018/19 season as they look to build from the back for the new season.

We told you yesterday how they agreed to sign former Gloucester City U18s full back Logan Roach for the coming season and the defensive depth has been added to with the addition of former Slimbridge defender Kieran Squires.

Squires posted on his social media accounts earlier this week that he was leaving Slimbridge and looking for a new challenge, his quest for such has lead him to Saw MIlls. After training with Levens last week and last night a deal has been reached to add the defender to the squad.

Squires who can play anywhere across the back and has appeared as an emergency striker for both Slimbridge and Tuffley Rovers in the last 12 months was full of optimism for his new side. He talked about his move to Severn Sport  and said,

“Longlevens are a good club and have a good young manager. I have spoke to Mavs [first team manager Mark Moore] all throughout pre-season about coming down for training initially. In the end I gave in and went down and despite having a few offers Longlevens seemed to be the best for me.

“I am now just looking forward to getting in some games and my fitness. Mavs has promised to get me fit again so I can’t wait to get started!.”

Squires will be potentially facing both former clubs from last season when he lines up for Longlevens in the Severn Sport Shield in two weeks time. His new Longlevens side play Tuffley Rovers on Wednesday 11th July in their semi final before potentially playing either Gloucester City or Slimbridge on Saturday 14th July.

After adding two defenders to his side, Longlevens manager Mark Moore told us,

“I’m really happy to get Kieran involved. He will bring added experience in the back line having played for both Tuffley and Slimbridge and will be a key experienced head in a youthful squad.”

Squires will be helped and mentored by Levens player/assistant manager Craig Martin who said that he hopes Squires can shake off the tag of being a club hopper, can find his feet and can stick to the task at hand at Longlevens.

Longlevens kick off their pre-season campaign tomorrow night when they host Southern League West side Cirencester Town to Saw Mills. Kick off at 7:45pm and you can follow the game right here on Severn Sport.
