Slimbridge short on numbers as close season departures set to continue

Slimbridge AFC look set for a tough pre-season with today’s double departure of full back duo Sam Turl & Adam Mace.

The Swans started their pre-season training last Tuesday with a modest amount of players on show but the numbers look set the dwindle even further after Cinderford Town confirmed the signing of right back Sam Turl and Bishops Cleeve confirming another signing, this time in left back Adam Mace.

It comes as a major blow for Slimbridge as they look to rebuild after a bad second half to their 2017/18 season that nearly saw them relegated from the Southern League West.

The Swans conceded over 130 goals in the league and have lost a number of key players, including highly rated Marley Thomas earlier in the summer.

Despite the fact they are set to bring in Longlevens forward Myron Turner after his successful dual registration at the end of last season.

The departures could bet set to continue for the side from Thornhill Park as defender Kieran Squires has been training with other clubs as he considers his options and according to Severn Sport sources kingpin midfielder Jack Twyman has been approached by an unnamed Hellenic Premier club and a move seems likely.

With the season kicking off in just over six weeks, what we do know is that it is a tricky period for manager Freddy Ward and a Swans side looking to maintain their Southern League status.
