Longlevens forward set to make switch to Hellenic Premier rivals

Longlevens have been dealt a blow ahead of their first pre-season training session tonight, with the news that top scorer Brad Martin is to leave Saw Mills for Hellenic Premier rivals, Bishops Cleeve.

Severn Sport understands the transfer is yet to be completed but is due to be confirmed in the coming days.

Martin, 24, scored 20+ goals last season for Levens as they achieved a piece of history in first team coach Mark Moore’s first season in charge. They finished 9th in the league, their highest league position at Hellenic level and also got through to the 1st round of the FA Vase.

The striker joins Bishops Cleeve as they bid to make an immediate return to Southern League football after failing to complete the impossible escape that they nearly achieved.

Mitres boss Stephen Cleal has been very positive in his social media posts over the summer and has hinted at major incoming transfers as he looks to launch #BounceBack and guide his side back to where they believe they belong.

Brad Martin spoke exclusively to Severn Sport about the move and was quick to thank his former club.

“Firstly, thanks to Longlevens for everything especially last season. But after speaking to Stephen Cleal and hearing the ambition and drive he has for Bishops Cleeve I feel that I want to test myself and achieve as much as I can. Hopefully we can put this club back where it belongs in the Southern League.
I had seen the #BounceBack tweets over the summer and I am excited to be a part of an exciting time for Cleeve.”

Mark Moore and his Longlevens side start their training for the 2018/19 season tonight now without their leading scorer and they will be hoping to avoid any further departures in the close season – especially with Myron Turner being highly sought after, most notably by Slimbridge.

Don’t forget this Saturday (23rd June) a Longlevens XI will take on an E.G. Carter XI in a charity match, raising money for Children With Cancer UK and the James Hopkins Trust. Joining the E.G. Carter XI will be Levens keeper Ash Wintle, former Eastender Matt Lapinskas and members of the male team on ITV2 show Survival of the FIttest. The side will also consist of Severn Sport’s Kelsey De Maria & Tyrell Foster. Kick off at midday at Saw Mills.
