No sooner has a long, drawn out football season finished before local sides were announcing pre-season fixtures ahead of the 2018/19 season, that is all except Gloucestershire Northern Senior League side Barnwood United.
The Gloucester based side will be playing in GNSL Division Two next season after winning the Stroud League Division One title on a dramatic final day, but now they are facing a pre-season of uncertainty on the field.
Due to maintenance work being carried out and events booked at their home pitch at the Wall’s Club in Barnwood, the pitch is now inaccessible for the club until late July meaning Barnwood will now need to seek away games for pre-season or negotiate a neutral venue to host their friendlies.
The news comes after a torturous wait for Barnwood, who have seen proposed friendly opportunities against the likes of Tuffley Rovers Reserves slip away due to the uncertainty. The late confirmation leaves them a mad rush to get friendlies booked and played before their season starts at the start of August.
