It’s over. The Grand National has been run, the festival is over and so is the tipster league. Going into proceeds on the third and final day we knew that there were still a whole host of tipsters in the running to be crowned King Tipster.
I will be working it out as I type as I haven’t watched any of the races so do not know the full results. Instead I was at Longlevens vs Windsor in the Hellenic League, you can read about the game here.
It is worth mentioning that one tipster, And The New failed to submit his tips for the second time so therefore saw himself penalised. He scored -6 points for the day as a whole. With that being said let’s take a look.
1.45pm – Gaskells Handicap Hurdle
1) Mr Big Shot 7/1 F
2) Now McGinty 12/1
3) Ah Littleluck 10/1
4) Debece 8/1
Woah. No fallers or pulled up horses?! Insane start.
Big Tips, Mr Slimbridge AFC, The Bear and The Fox all failed to score a point for their selections.
For tipping Mr Big Shot though, Mr & Mrs Severn Sport and Always in my brother’s shadow scored 3 points. Bacon and Sweet Prince also picked Mr Big Shot but they both used their double price boost meaning they scored additional points for having a 14/1 winner instead of a 7/1 winner, meaning they both scored 5 points.
No Speed No Feed scored 1 point for tipping Debece to place.
3.4opm – Betway Handicap Chase
1) Thomas Patrick 3/1 F
2) On Tour 14/1
3) Paper Lantern 10/1
Out of the nine tipsters who participated today, 8 of them scored positive points for this race. The Fox scored -2 points for tipping Rocklander.
A lot of our tipsters had Rocklander to be honest. But they had Rocklander with the winner Thomas Patrick. This means scoring 1 point each are Sweet Prince, The Bear, Bacon & Always in my brother’s shadow.
No Speed No Feed, Mr Slimbridge AFC and Mr & Mrs Severn Sport all had the winner so scored 3 points each.
Big Tips scored 1 point for having On Tour to place.
4.20pm – Ryanair Stayers Hurdle
1) Identity Thief 14/1
2) Wholestone 7/2
3) Sam Spinner 6/5 F
Pulled Up: Lil Rockerfeller, Coole Cody
Another low scoring affair here.
Big Tips scored -2 points for Coole Cody pulling up.
No Speed No Feed, Mr Slimbridge AFC, Always in my brother’s shadow, Mr & Mrs Severn Sport and The Bear all scored 1 point each for Wholestone or Sam Spinner placing.
Sweet Prince, The Fox and Bacon all scored 0 points, with the latter seeing Lil Rockerfeller pull up but then his double points on Sam Spinner to place countering the penalty points, smart tipping!
And with that it all went on to the Grand National race. I can tell you that going into the final race it was down to four potential Tipster League winners.
Bacon was on top with 14 points going onto Seeyouatmidnight in the big race. Mr Slimbridge AFC & The Bear were just a point behind with the latter also on Seeyouatmidnight, but the former was on Tiger Roll. Back on 12 points were Mr & Mrs Severn Sport, who were on Total Recall.
5.15pm – Randox Health Grand National
1) Tiger Roll 10/1
2) Pleasant Company 25/1
3) Bless The Wings 40/1
4) Anibale Fly 10/1
Brought Down: Blaklion
Pulled Up: Total Recall
Faller: Alpha des Obeaux
Unseated Rider: The Dutchman
A few minus points were awarded but they didn’t impact the table too much. As you can see by the fact Tiger Roll won the National, we also had a winner in the tipster league.
So there we have it. Mr Slimbridge AFC gets redemption after a bad tipster league debut at Cheltenham a month ago. By tipping Tiger Roll successfully he wins the league by 5 points to Bacon in second. Bacon will be pleased with his efforts as he notches up his highest ever tipster league finish. The Bear gets a podium place once more in third and incredibly Mr & Mrs Severn Sport ended all three days in fourth place, showing their consistency.
The others were let down by their high amount of minus bonus points, with the usual strong tipster Sweet Prince finishing a lowly 7th. Big Tips get the wooden spoon after failing to back a winner across the three days.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of the tipster league once again. We will see you in June for Royal Ascot.
