Severn Sport Tipster League – Grand National Festival Day 1 Results

What a dramatic opening day to the Grand National chapter of the 2018 Tipster League. We saw winners, we saw losers and we saw fallers!!

Let’s have a look race by race at how the Tipster League is shaping up after day one.

1.45pm – Big Buck’s Celebration Manifesto Novices’ Chase

1) Finian’s Oscar 5/2
2) Rene’s Girl 8/1

Faller: Brain Power

Wow, first race of the league and the first set of minus points to be distributed.

For picking the faller Brain Power, –2 points were scored by The Bear, Bacon, And The New, Always in my brother’s shadow and Big Tips.

No Speed No Feed and Sweet Prince had Brain Power but also had Finian’s Oscar so scored 1 pointThe Fox also scored 1 point for the placing Rene’s Girl.

Mr & Mrs Severn Sport picked the horses who finished outside of the first two, but importantly finished, meaning they scored 0 points.

Mr Slimbridge AFC was the big winner, picking Finian’s Oscar to win and avoiding any minus points, notching up 3 points.

2.50pm – Betway Bowl Chase

1) Might Bite 4/5 Fav
2) Bristol De Mai 5/1
3) Clan Des Obeaux 8/1

Unseated Rider: Definitely Red

Well this race saw a lot of confidence from four of our tipsters who put their double points boost onto Might Bite, the pressured favourite. But the Cheltenham Gold Cup runner up stayed in touch throughout and glided to the front to chalk up a W in the win column. With Definitely Red unseating his rider it has shaken the points up.

The Fox and Big Tips were the only tipsters to go against Might Bite and they BOTH picked Definitely Red, so they score -2 points each.

Sweet Prince, And The New and Mr & Mrs Severn Sport tipped Might Bite so all scored 3 points.

The Bear and No Speed No Feed both had double points on Might Bite but also had Definitely Red to place, meaning they both scored 4 points.

Bacon also scored 4 points for getting the reversed forecast with his selections.

Both of Mr Slimbridge AFC and Always in my brother’s shadow had double points on Might Bite but also had a place to go with it. The former had Clan Des Obeaux so scored 7 points in total, whilst the latter went one further by having Bristol De Mai and scoring an additional point for the forecast, so scored 8 points for the race.

3.25pm – Betway Aintree Hurdle

1) L’ami Serge 5/1
2) Supasundae 11/10 Fav
3) Clyne 25/1

Pulled Up: The New One, Air Horse One

Only one of our tipsters really did anything to write home about in a positive way here. The Bear scored 4 points for the reversed forecast.

Sweet Prince and Bacon both scored -2 points for Air Horse One & The New One, who both pulled up.

No Speed No Feed picked up -4 points  thanks to picking both of the pulled up horses.

The Fox had The New One as his extra place but also tipped Clyne, so scored just -1 points.

All of the other five tipsters failed to score any points, plus or minus.

So with the points being thrown about left, right and centre here is how the table looks after day one at Aintree.

What a day for Mr Slimbridge AFC, after his nightmare Cheltenham Festival Colin has hit back in amazing fashion thus far. He is on double digits already but with two days left it is still all to play for. Always in my brother’s shadow and The Bear are joint second with three points. A quiet day for Mr & Mrs Severn Sport has proved to be a productive one as they sit fourth. The chasing pack are tightly bunched with The Fox and Big Tips cut adrift at this stage, both on minus points.

Tomorrow sees day two of the tipster league. Check back right here from 10am for day two’s tips in full.
