What a day of mixed fortunes for all of our competitors in the Tipster League. We had three very tough races for the tipsters to sink their teeth into and the points scored reflects that.
Last year the third day was the make or break day. This year it has been no different. The table is finely poised going into the fourth and final day. The big day. The Gold Cup tomorrow afternoon can be the difference in the end, but today has proved to be the day for the Tipsters to sculpt their final place.
Away from the Tipster League it was all about Gordon Elliott and Davy Russell (thank you very much!) with Balko Des Flos winning the RyanAir, Jack Kennedy riding Shattered Love to victory in the JLT.
But how did the big three races in today’s Tipster League go for our competitors. Well let’s dive in.
2.10pm – Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle
1) Delta Work 6/1
2) Glenloe 9/2 F
3) Connetable 33/1
4) Taj Badalandabad 40/1
Pulled Up: Forza Milan
Our tipsters did horribly on the whole in the first race.
Sweet Prince, The Bear, Bacon, The Fox, Mr & Mrs Severn Sport and Big Tips all scored 0 points for failing to pick anything in the frame.
And The New and Mr Slimbridge AFC scored -2 points for tipping Forza Milan, who pulled up about half way around the circuit.
No Speed No Feed had Delta Work as an each way shot so due to the result collected 3 points.
Always in my brother’s shadow went one better. They had Delta Work as the each way shot with Glenloe to win meaning they scored the reversed forecast. They picked up 4 points.
And with that we were set up for the Stayers’ Hurdle with it all to play for.
3.30pm – Stayers’ Hurdle
1) Penhill 12/1
2) Supasundae 6/1
3) Wholestone 14/1
Fallers: Let’s Dance, Bacardys
Scoring was once again scarce on this race. A lot of the tipsters went for Yanworth and Sam Spinner who both finished outside of the frame.
Sweet Prince and The Bear scored 1 point each for tipping Supasundae each way. The Fox also picked up a point for tipping Wholestone to place.
Bacon, Mr & Mrs Severn Sport, Mr Slimbridge AFC, Always in my brother’s shadow, Big Tips and No Speed No Feed all failed to score a single point.
It was mixed emotions for And The New as he tipped Wholestone to place but had Bacardys who fell, meaning he totaled -1 point.
A near barren day so far for a lot of tipsters at this stage. Surely it can get better from here? It just has to?
4.10pm– Brown Advisory & Merriebelle Handicap Hurdle
1) The Storyteller 5/1 F
2) Splash Of Ginge 25/1
3) King’s Odyssey 14/1
4) Ballyalton 16/1
Faller: Willie Boy
Pulled Up: Old Grangewood, Movewiththetimes, Drumcliff, Viconte Du Noyer
Non-runner: Tully East
It was key to note that Tully East was declared a non-runner before the race. This means that the reserves for three of our tipsters. Let’s see how they got on.
Sweet Prince scored -2 points after Movewiththetimes pulled up. And The New along with Mr & Mrs Severn Sport scored the same after Willie Boy fell. Mr Slimbridge AFC suffered the same fate when Old Grangewood pulled up too.
The Fox had Ballyalton come in as his win shot meaning he failed to score whilst The Bear picked up 1 point for having Ballyalton to place.
No Speed No Feed scored 1 point for successfully tipping Splash of Ginge to place, a great effort!
Both Bacon and Big Tips had The Storyteller to win but were hampered by Viconte Du Noyer & Willie Boy failing to finish respectively, they both only collected 1 point.
Always in my brother’s shadow had a disaster. They tipped Movewiththetimes and Old Grangewood who both pulled up, meaning they scored -4 points. Ouch.
Minus points were the order of the day for our tipsters, but with just one day left how is the table shaping up? Let’s take a look.
Three days and a third new leader as day three comes to an end. The Bear has snuck into the lead thanks to Ballyalton getting up for a place and is currently a point ahead of the much improved No Speed No Feed who is up to second. A bad day for Always in my brother’s shadow in reality after their strong start, but their day was better than And The New who scored minus points in all three races to fall from 1st to 7th.
But, I can now exclusively reveal tomorrow’s races. So if the tipsters read this they will know the races before they are issued later on tonight. The all important races are:
1.30 – JCB Triumph Hurdle
2.50pm – Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle
3.30pm – Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup – Winner Only – Double Points
4.10pm – St James’ Place Foxhunter Challenge Cup
It is important to note that the Gold Cup will see our tipsters pick just one horse. That horse qualifies for all points, so will score if it wins or places. It is also important to know that the selections in that race are all DOUBLE POINTS. I won’t be harsh and double the minus points though if they fail to finish.
Unlike last year the Gold Cup won’t be the final race which is very interesting to consider. Even if our tipsters get the winner of the Gold Cup race they still have it all to play for!! Upping the excitement as the league is far from over!
