Bishops Cleeve secured a second league win of the season yesterday and they notched their second 4-0 win at Kayte Lane in the process as they took apart struggling Mangotsfield United in the Southern League West.
Cleeve took the lead through Ieuan Crowe as he powered a header into the net from a corner just after the 20 minute mark. Crowe then turned provider just after the break as he flicked the ball on for Harrison Iddles who dispatched his one on one with incredible composure.
The game was over as a contest just five minutes later when Joe Bates dispatched a spotkick which he had won himself. A glorious 4th from Jack Watts sealed the points and a three points that sees Cleeve move onto 8 league points.
The Mitres remain bottom and are 13 points from safety but will look to build on this win.
Cinderford Town were the only other side to win on a tough day for our sides and they left it late with an 85th minute winner. The scorer though remains a mystery as the Southern League credits it to Jack Alderdice, the Cinderford Town twitter account credits it to defender Dan Clare but fans in attendance say own goal…either way Cinderford won’t care too much.
Lewis Bamford broke the deadlock after 10 minutes and despite being pegged back the points came back to Gloucestershire with The Foresters who will now look ahead to the visit of Larkhall to the Causeway on Tuesday night. They sit 17th in the table with as many as two games in hand on the teams around them.
There was heartbreak for Shortwood United as after going 3-0 up at table topping Taunton Town on 76 minutes they would only be heading home with a point in a crazy afternoon in Somerset.
Jordan Morris, Joe White and William Hawes had Shortwood in dreamland with less than 15 minutes to go but after Ross Staley pulled one back it was left to Daniel Sullivan to score Taunton’s second in the 89th minute and the equaliser from the spot in the 98th minute.
Shortwood remain 18th in the table with all of the sides below losing, except for Bishops Cleeve of course.
Slimbridge were beaten at home in the league for the 10th time this season as they went down 2-0 to AFC Totton. The game was finely set up for a point a piece but when Alex Hoyle was dismissed for the Swans the momentum swung the visitors way.
Charlie Gunson opened the scoring in the final 15 minutes before Tony Lee put the result beyond any doubt in stoppage time.
Slimbridge remain 20th in the table and their free fall continues. They are now only six points outside of the relegation zone. The Swans return to action when they host Winchester City on Wednesday night.
Ahead of the trip to Didcot Town it was all about Cirencester Town’s Ben Whitehead returning to his former club but it was a former Centurion who had the first and final laugh in a 4-0 win for the hosts. Felipe Barcelos opened the scoring after just two minutes and scored two minutes from time to seal the emphatic win. His goals bookended a double for Didcot’s George Reid.
Cirencester are 14th in the table and are nearer the top half than they are to the relegation zone, something that didn’t look like happening earlier in the season.
The Centurions are back in action on Tuesday night as they try for the third time to host North Leigh after two postponements at the back end of 2017.
