It was a sunny yet Autumnally day in South Gloucestershire as Tytherington welcomed Longlevens in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Vase. The winners would go into the hat for the 1st Round proper and would receive prize money to the tune of £725. The visitors were the favourites going into the game but knew they would have to put to bed the demons of the midweek defeat at the hands of Highworth Town.
Both sides played their parts in a very competitive first half. A half that saw Brad Martin notch goals 11 and 12 in all competitions to put Longlevens 2-0 up. It was followed by a moment of brilliance for Tytherington forward Owen Badham as he leapt onto a Ben Goode kick downfield and lobbed the on rushing Ash Wintle to give the hosts hope. This was short lived as Myron Turner added a third just before half time turning home on the rebound after a decent stop by Goode.
The second half was more dominant for Longlevens who set their stall out early to see the game out whilst building on what they had. Brad Martin completed his hattrick by slotting an indirect free kick into the bottom corner. This brought the changes for Longlevens as Shaun O’Connor, Craig Martin & Nick Bradley entered the game and it was the latter two who combined when Martin slipped the ball through to Bradley who expertly drilled the ball across goal and into the bottom corner. Craig Martin then added a sixth for the visitors when he turned a cross from the left into the roof of the net.
The scoring wasn’t done there though as the impressive Jay Kennedy added a seventh before Bradley found himself one on one with Goode and finished with a flourish. Mark Moore and his Longlevens side will find out who their opponents for Saturday 21st October will be during the week and wherever they go, Severn Sport will be there.
