GNSL Round-up: Civil Service on cloud 9, Charlton Rovers hit 6 & a tight start to Division Two

After a return to action in the Reg Davis Memorial Cup last weekend for our Gloucestershire Northern Senior League sides, this weekend saw their respective league campaigns get underway.

The top two in last season’s Division Two, Woolaston and Cheltenham Civil Service, got off to the perfect start in the league with big away wins.

Woolaston beat fellow promoted side English Bicknor 4-0 whilst Cheltenham Civil Service put Leonard Stanley to the sword, winning 9-1.

They are joined on three points by Charlton Rovers who beat Longlevens Reserves 6-0 at Longford Lane.

Charlton Rovers and Cheltenham Civil Service have started their season particularly well, by making it three wins from three after both reaching the Quarter Finals of the Reg Davis Cup.

Civil Service host Kings Stanley, whilst Charlton Rovers head to Lydney Town Reserves with all of the Quarter Finals being played on Wednesday evening.

Brockworth Albion and Bredon both started their league campaigns with wins, both winning 2-1 respectively.

Elsewhere in Division One Berkeley Town and Harrow Hill played out a 1-1 draw.

In Division Two Abbeymead Rovers suffered their second 3-2 defeat at home in four days as they went down at home to Kings Stanley.

Last season’s Stroud League Champions are joined on three points by fellow promoted sides Charfield, who won 2-1 at Falcons, and Staunton & Corse who claimed a 3-2 win at Frampton United Reserves.

In a tight opening day FC Lakeside currently sit top on goal difference after winning 2-0 at Broadwell Amateurs Reserves. But as you can see there wasn’t an awful lot between the sides in Division Two in their opening round of games.

The newly merged Smiths Barometrics played out a 2-2 draw with Stonehouse Town Reserves.

After the first league game it is back to cup action this midweek with the aforementioned Quarter Finals of the Reg Davis Cup, check out the games below.
