Former Gloucester City midfielder Connor Thompson has signed for Fairford Town for the 2019/20 season, the club have confirmed.
Thompson, who joined the Robins on a dual registration last season, joins from Swindon Supermarine as Fairford look to build on a good season in the Hellenic Premier last season.
“We are delighted to get him on board,” said Fairford manager Jody Bevan.
“It’s something I’ve been working on for 9 months. His wife is about to give birth and he did not want to commit to the travel of Southern Premier with Swindon Supermarine, so we became a good option for him. I am absolutely delighted to get him on board.”
Thompson, who only made 10 appearances for the Tigers before playing for a short period in the USA and he adds a level of pedigree to a Fairford Town squad who returned for pre-season training on Saturday. Afterwards, Bevan has confirmed will look very similar this term with just a few fresh faces.
“Nearly all of the lads from last season have let me know they want to stay at the club this season. That has meant I have been able to focus on key areas that I felt needed to be improved, rather than getting in numbers.
Connor is an example of this and it’s a great endorsement of the club and everything we have tried to put in place over the last two years, that he has decided that he wants to play his football for us. We hope to be in a position to announce another key signing within the next week.” Bevan said.
Fairford Town’s Chairman Stuart Pike took to Twitter of main sponsor Spikes Diner to welcome Thompson to the club.
