Cirencester to host Cinderford in Southern League Play-Offs after finishing 2nd thanks to late penalty

Cirencester Town will host Cinderford Town in the Semi Final of the Southern League Division One South Play-offs on Wednesday 1st May after finishing 2nd in the league.

With Yate Town losing 3-0 at Street, a 90th minute Michael Pook penalty saw the Centurions win 1-0 away at Melksham Town. The win put Cirencester level with Yate on 75 points, but they move up to 2nd on goal difference.

Cinderford earned their spot in the play-offs by playing out a 0-0 with Winchester City at the Causeway. The Foresters went into the game knowing a draw or better would secure they spot, whilst a win for Winchester would have seen them make the play-offs next week.

Yate Town, who dropped the 3rd, will host Moneyfields at Lodge Road on Wednesday evening in the other play-off.

The Semi Final at the Centurion Stadium will be live on Severn Sport, with full radio commentary with Ryan Butler & Kelsey De Maria. Should Cirencester beat Cinderford they will be at home for the all important play-off final.

Elsewhere in the division, Evesham United were beaten 3-1 away at Bideford as they finished 7th in the league. A disappointing end to the season after occupying a play-off spot for a long period of the season.

Also a Myron Turner strike was enough for Slimbridge to beat Thatcham Town 1-0 in Berkshire. The Swans secured their league status last week and finished 18th after this weekend’s win.
