Severn Sport Tipster League 2019 – Cheltenham Festival Day 2 Results

Weather? What weather? Last night we told you that today’s card at Cheltenham was under threat due to a reported storm hitting the county. Well, what unfolded was a wonderful day at the racecourse…in fact away from it too.

For our 11 tipsters, they all looked to build, or in some cases re-build their tipster league title winning approach on the all important second day at Cheltenham.

The day was all leading up to the see if Altior could win the Queen Mother Champion Chase and just like yesterday, two of our tipsters laid down their Ultimate Gamble boost on him – putting on the line all points scored throughout the day.

How did they get on? Let’s find out.

14:10 – RSA Chase

1) Topofthegame (4/1)
2) Santini (3/1)
3) Delta Work (15/8 Fav)

Pulled Up: On The Blind Side

A great first race for a lot of our tipsters, with the winner selected by 8 out of the 11 tipsters. Both #Bouncebackers Square Leg failed to pick up a point for the opening race, whilst Mr Slimbridge AFC picked up 1 point for tipping Delta Work to place.

All of The Fox, Bacon, Always In My Brother’s Shadow, The Tinkers and The Bear picked up 3 points each for having the winner.

Last Chance Saloon picked the winner but also unfortunately had On The Blind Side, who was pulled up. That means he only collects 1 point after the minus points were deducted.

Sweet Prince scored 4 points for having the winner and Delta Work to place, whilst Knight Riders had the forecast of 1st and 2nd meaning they collect 5 points – just like they did with the opening race on day one as well.

The first race saw a lot of our tipsters lay down a marker for the rest of the day, but could they sustain their momentum?

14:50 – Coral Cup

1) William Henry (28/1)
2) Wicklow Brave (28/1)
3) Ballyandy (14/1)
4) Brio Conti (10/1)

Amazingly, there weren’t any minus points issued in such a big field due to the only horse failing to finish not being involved. No one had the winner though, so only place points were issued. In fact, only three tipsters scored anything here.

Square Leg had Ballyandy as his extra place, whilst Knight Riders & #Bouncebackers had Brio Conti to place, meaning they all scored 1 point each.

Before the final race in the tipster league, we had the Queen Mother Champion Chase and the two Ultimate Gambles.

15:30 – Queen Mother Champion Chase

1) Altior 4/11 Fav
2) Politologue (11/1)
3) Sceau Royal (16/1)

As you can see the Ultimate Gamble paid off for both Always In My Brother’s Shadow & Sweet Prince, meaning they scored a bonus 5 points each, to be added to their score at the end of the day.

So it was all on Tiger Roll in the Cross Country, with 10 of the 11 tipsters picking him in their three horses. Would it be a massive upset?

16:30 – Glenfarclas Chase

1) Tiger Roll (5/4 Fav)
2) Josies Orders (15/2)
3) Urgent De Grengaine (17/2)

Unseated Rider: Tea For Two
Pulled Up: Ultragold, Auvergnat

Points. Points everywhere. There were points for all, except for Knight Riders & The Bear who scored 0 points – the latter only picking Tiger Roll as his reserve.

The Fox scored 1 point after tipping Tiger Roll, but also seeing Auvergnat pull up -meaning two points were deducted. Square Leg did likewise but his minus points came from Tea For Two falling.

Last Chance Saloon, Always In My Brother’s Shadow and The Tinkers all scored 5 points after picking the straight forecast of 1st and 2nd, whilst Bacon scored 4 points for tipping them the other way round.

#Bouncebackers also scored 4 points for once again picking 1st and 3rd, as they did in the RSA Chase.

The two big scorers were Mr Slimbridge AFC & Sweet Prince, who played their double points boost on Tiger Roll. Mr Slimbridge AFC scored a whopping 8 points for also having the straight forecast 1st and 2nd.

Sweet Prince scored 4 points as he had two points deducted for having Ultragold.

And with that we can breathe, lick our wounds and come again tomorrow. Day Three has always been the hardest day in the tipster league, so going into it let’s see how the table is shaping up.

So after a terrific day today, Sweet Prince now leads the way on 14 points with The Tinkers staying 2nd and showing real consistency. Bacon The Fox sit 3rd and 4th and aren’t too far away. It was a much better day for Mr Slimbridge AFC, the reigning champion, who now finds himself 5th in the table. Also a shout out to Always In My Brother’s Shadow, who overhauled a -8 score overnight to now be on 5 going into day three.

Join us back here tomorrow morning for day three’s tips and to see who will be the movers in the tipster league.
